What's new
Ready Hand still changes often. The version on a saved card matches the one below, so a screenshot can always be placed — it names the build and nothing else, because how far a score can be trusted depends on which ruleset produced it and is said beside that ruleset.
Special Hands stand alone, and About explains both rulesets
0.94.0-alpha · 19 Sep 2026
- A Hong Kong Special Hand — Thirteen Orphans, Great Four Winds, Eighteen Arhats — is thirteen faan and nothing stacks on it. The total was already right, because the ceiling is thirteen too, but the breakdown read “十八羅漢 13 + 無花 1, capped”, which looks like a faan was taken off you. Nothing was: a Special Hand never counted it.
- About now gives each ruleset a card of its own — the patterns, the floor, the ceiling and what the game is like — instead of running both together in one paragraph.
A note saying Hong Kong is there
0.93.0-alpha · 19 Sep 2026
- The style badge has said MCR since the first release, and a badge that never changes is one nobody opens — so a short note now appears under it once, saying there is a second ruleset and offering to switch. “Don’t show again” means it, and so does picking one: neither ever comes back.
- It says nothing on a first visit. There is no news for someone who has never seen the app, and the first screen has a job of its own.
- Whichever ruleset you pick is remembered until you change it — across visits, not just this one.
Learn mode teaches the rules you picked
0.91.0-alpha · 17 Sep 2026
- Learn › Hands taught Chinese Official whichever ruleset you were using, and said so nowhere. Search 混一色 under Hong Kong and it now answers 3 faan rather than 6 points, and the panel says which rules it is answering in.
- Rolling an example draws from hands that ruleset actually recognises. Seven pairs and the knitted hands are not Hong Kong wins at all, so rolling the Chinese Official set there would have opened Learn mode, about one time in ten, with “these tiles do not form a winning hand”.
- Tile names under Learn › Tiles are unchanged. A 三萬 is a 三萬 in every tradition.
Hong Kong Old Style, beside Chinese Official
0.90.1-alpha · 17 Sep 2026
- Tap the style badge at the top — the one that used to just say MCR — and pick Hong Kong Old Style. Hands then score in faan: three to go out, thirteen the ceiling, and about twenty patterns that simply add up. Your choice is remembered, so you set it once at a table.
- Every screen follows: the score, the ready check, what didn’t count, and the saved card, which now names the rules it was scored under — a 6 means different things across the two tables, and a shared card outlives the conversation.
- Hong Kong has no single rulebook. Ours follows the Hong Kong published tables; your table may differ on the rarer patterns, and the About page says so plainly.
- Flowers are asked about differently under each. Chinese Official pays a point for a flower whoever it belongs to; Hong Kong pays a faan for the two matching your seat — East’s 梅 and 春 — and nothing for the other six, so it asks how many of yours you hold. Holding none at all is a faan on its own.
- Tapping a pattern to light the tiles that earned it is still Chinese Official only, so Hong Kong doesn’t offer it rather than offering a tap that does nothing.
Two scores corrected against the official rules sheet
0.88.1-alpha · 17 Sep 2026
- A pung of dragons no longer cancels the point for a separate pung of ones, nines or winds elsewhere in the hand. Those are two different sets, and MCR pays for both — hands with a dragon pung beside a terminal pung were one point short. The same was true next to Seat Wind, Prevalent Wind and Big Three Winds.
- Two kongs where one is concealed now score 6 rather than 3: Two Melded Kongs, plus Concealed Kong for the hidden one.
- Pung of Terminals or Honors now says what it pays for — ones, nines or winds. A pung of dragons scores Dragon Pung instead, and only ever did.
Only changes a player could notice are listed. Plenty of releases fix things nobody would ever have seen.
